This exhibition highlights five artists from the museum’s collection. During a time when it was still difficult for women to receive the same level of art education as men, Satoe Arima (1893–1978) studied under Saburosuke Okada and attended the Hongo Western Painting Research Institute. She frequently exhibited her works at the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions and was the first woman to win a special prize in the Teiten's Western painting category. She continued to exhibit at the Nitten after the war.

Setsu Asakura (1922–2014), later known for her stage design, studied Japanese painting at Shinsui Ito's painting school but, after the war, traveled to mines and fishing villages with Tadashi Sato and others to sketch workers, experimenting with new expressions and techniques. Mami Mouri (1926–2022) traveled to France alone in 1950, studied at André Lhote's painting school, and gained attention for her geometrically composed, vividly colored depictions of women.

Additionally, Kimiko Kobayashi (1929–2023) and Zhao Ruijuan (1924–2020) were among the first women admitted to the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1946. Kobayashi studied under Sotaro Yasui. Post-war Japan saw the development of the People's Print Movement, inspired by Chinese woodcuts, and both Kobayashi and Zhao, who was born into a Chinese expatriate family in Kobe, were among the few women artists to participate in this movement, producing works with keen insights into contemporary society.

The museum held a solo exhibition for Asakura in 2017 and a small exhibition for Arima in 2020. This time, the exhibition includes new acquisitions from three additional artists, presenting how these women, with strong will and determination, created their works within the new post-war structure.
