Princess Knight - Tale of Three Sapphires

The Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum
Finished

Artists

Osamu Tezuka
The Princess Knight (Ribbon no Kishi) began serialization in "Shojo Club" in the January 1953 issue. Osamu Tezuka brought not only laughter but also a manga with a tumultuous storyline to a magazine for girls, which until then had focused mainly on reading material. The girls of the time were completely captivated by the exciting developments that took place each time, and the work became a turning point that had a tremendous impact on the girls' manga artists that followed.

As Princess Knight herself has said, "The Knight of the Ribbon is the culmination of my Takarazuka experience," it was born out of nostalgia for the Takarazuka Revue. Tezuka was so attached to the work that he drew Princess Knight four times (the fourth time was only the original draft). After completing the last Princess Ribbon, he left shojo manga as well.

This year marks exactly 70 years since the first Princess Knight was drawn. This exhibition introduces each of the three knights.

Sapphire, a special citizen of Takarazuka City and a tourism ambassador will also be introduced.
