Qingyi, Jyoucho, Hakuikishiroi, From_photobooth
The group exhibition "Prism Connect" features the works of four artists: Qingyi, Jyoucho, Hakuikishiroi, and From_photobooth. These artists participated in the Meet Your Art Festival at the Shinjuku Opthalmologist Gallery booth in 2023. In addition to their previous works, this exhibition will showcase their new creations.
What these four artists share is their expression that traverses the boundary between digital and analog.
Qingyi, originally from China, creates digital illustrations that evoke the motifs and designs of her native culture, accompanied by a somewhat otherworldly sci-fi feel. For exhibitions, she adds two-dimensional or three-dimensional analog paint and decorations to the prints of her digital works.
Jyoucho's distinctive style merges various digital data, such as character illustrations, photo images, and 3D models, into a single painting. These works are printed on canvas for exhibitions, where the texture of the canvas and Jocho's digital drawing blend together, elevating the print to a texture reminiscent of oil painting, which can astonish viewers.
Hakuikishiroi creates paintings on stickers inspired by images derived from digital information on the internet. An important concept in her work is "digital information passing through her body and being created as a work that possesses physical mass in the material world."
From_photobooth produces works by digitally editing photographic images through collage and painting. This artist explores the transformation of endlessly variable digital images into fixed, immutable ones by printing them in a material form.
The exhibition "Prism Connect" highlights the interplay between digital and analog common to all four artists. The title references a prism that transforms organic light into inorganic straight lines, symbolizing the connection between the digital and analog, and the bond between the creators and the world.
