Contemporary Art Foundation is pleased to present "Raffael Bader: Walk in Sizzling Air" from August 25 to September 22, 2023. This exhibition marks the first solo exhibition in Japan by the artist.
Rafael Bader's paintings are characterized by semi-abstraction, which is mainly inspired by the natural environment. The artist focuses on the connection between the natural environment and human emotions, and through layers of paint with varying thicknesses and different textures, he creates images that are both flat with depth, hinting at the process of the creation. Viewers in front of the artist’s works are invited to witness the artist's mind and the exterior world become one in the midst of a natural environment.
Bader was born in 1987 and has been based in the city since graduating from the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (Germany) in 2019, and has participated in exhibitions around the world, including Germany, the UK, Switzerland, the US, and Japan. The artist's work joined the collection of Yusaku Maezawa, the founder and chairman, in 2022. In this exhibition, around ten paintings from the collection will be exhibited for the first time in Japan.
