Opening in August 2026 in Minami-Aoyama, Starry Sky on a Rainy Day is a group exhibition featuring Maki Hashimoto of the girl group Rain Tree, produced by Yasushi Akimoto, together with nine students from Tokyo University of the Arts.
The exhibition brings together paintings and other works created by the ten participants, each presenting their own perspective under a shared theme. Although they come from different field, an idol and artists, they share a common structure: creating and sharing expressions supported by the gaze and encouragement of others.
The focus of the project lies not only in the completed works but also in the creative process behind them. Through dialogue with Hashimoto, who works professionally as a performer, the nine art students reconsider their own approaches to making. At the same time, Hashimoto participates as an artist herself, exploring new forms of self-expression through painting.
Featuring nine students from the Oil Painting Department at Tokyo University of the Arts, including Ame, who created the main visual and has gained strong recognition while still a student, the exhibition presents the encounter between different forms of expression as a kind of documentary of creative exchange.
During the exhibition, Hashimoto will also provide audio readings of texts written by each participating artist, offering another perspective on the works and the ideas behind them.
