Reylia Slaby
Join us for a captivating journey through the subtle interplay between light and dark, pain and joy, and the delicate balance that exists between them. "There Was Joy Too" is a solo exhibition by Reylia Slaby, a photographer who creates unique and visually striking images using a mix of digital, film, and photo manipulation techniques. Reylia's current body of work features flower motifs and a vivid color palette, highlighting the beauty and harmony of light and dark in each photograph. She personally creates the sets and props within each photograph, infusing her unique vision into every aspect of the image.

Born and raised in Japan to American parents, Reylia Slaby's multicultural background informs her art, which invites viewers to contemplate the complexity of the human experience. In this exhibition, she invites you to join her in a dialogue about the importance of finding harmony between contrasting elements. Each piece on display is a reflection of her year-long journey to find beauty and gratitude amidst difficult circumstances, challenging herself and her viewers to observe misery with kinder eyes.

The photographs in "There Was Joy Too" feature a vibrant mix of colors with bold and bright hues set against deep blacks and negative space. The flower motifs that appear throughout the exhibition lend a sense of organic beauty to the pieces, while the handmade sets and props add a tactile quality that draws the viewer into each photograph. Through her use of color, form, and composition, Reylia Slaby creates works that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

Join us for this exciting opportunity to experience the debut of Reylia Slaby's solo show in Tokyo. "There Was Joy Too" is a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition that invites viewers to contemplate the beauty that can be found in both light and dark, and to reflect on the importance of finding balance in our lives.
