"Ima Koko" (Here Now) is a photo picture book created by combining the poetry of Shuntaro Tanigawa with photographs by Rinko Kawauchi. It originated from the poem by Tanigawa, inspired by the music of Ikuko Harada, titled "Ima Koko," which was featured in the planetarium show "Color of Darkness" at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Japan. Harada's composition "Ima Koko" is an 11-and-a-half-minute masterpiece featured on her solo album "Ima," released in 2023, incorporating voices ranging from 0 to 91 years old, Tanigawa's recitation, breathing sounds, and the sound of rei harakami. The project as a book began when Harada visited Kawauchi's photo exhibition, "M/E Sphere on Top, Infinite Continuity."
In the photo picture book "Ima Koko," constructed by Kawauchi herself in harmony with words and photographs, the design by art director Hideyuki Saito allows the words to flow with rhythm across the pages. The fundamental poem "Ima Koko," which allows various interpretations while questioning one's existence, resonates with the fresh photographs, capturing the breath of nature amid tranquility. Together, they accompany the audience on a journey that transcends time and space.
In this exhibition, selected photographic works from the photo picture book and new visuals created by Kawauchi specifically for Harada's composition "Ima Koko" will be showcased.
