Ruri Matsumoto "Hidden Color, Thread, Space"

Gallery KTO Harajuku
Finished
This exhibition features the work of Ruri Matsumoto (1981-), an artist based in Düsseldorf, Germany, known for her international activities.

Matsumoto's works are housed in contemporary art museums such as Museum MARTa Herford in Germany and the historic Rijks Museum Amsterdam in the Netherlands, gaining high acclaim primarily in Europe. Her participation in group exhibitions, such as the one commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mondrian's birth held at the municipal museum in Vianen from the end of last year to this spring, and her involvement in the group exhibition currently held at the Escher Museum, underscore her rising prominence.

In this exhibition at Gallery KTO Harajuku, an installation featuring black summer wool threads is on display. Thirty-two black threads connect opposing walls, often intertwining. However, the relationship between the intertwining threads is not very clear due to their "black" color. Rather, in the vigorously intertwining sections, all threads seem to be equidistant from the viewer. Therefore, this installation bewilders the viewer's eyes, compressing the expansive space through its illusionary nature.
