Sadam Yoshizawa
Sadam Yoshizawa studied graphic design at Tohoku University of Art and Design. After graduating, he worked as an illustrator for 12 years. However, he eventually moved away from client work to focus on creating pieces that only he could make, and he has since dedicated himself to this path.

Since childhood, Sadam has had a passion for drawing. He engaged with various materials and techniques by imitating drawings from magazines, posters, anime, manga, etc. His brother's influence, who also enjoyed drawing, was strong.

One of Sadam's notable works is a portrait of a woman with only a smiling mouth. This was inspired by the smile from the movie "Carrie" that he saw during his childhood. Since then, iconic smiles from women seen on the streets or in cosmetics advertisements have been traced back to Carrie and transformed into his artwork.

When Sadam began his artistic career, he relocated his studio from his hometown Sendai to Tokyo and started working from a shared studio space initiated by Haroshi. After four years of relatively slow progress, and gradually increasing collectors, he has reached his current status.

While Sadam's works are primarily paintings, his unique experiences, and techniques allow him to combine different materials and establish original painting methods. Notably, his use of resin is worth attention. By cutting solidified resin into random shapes and sizes for reuse, and then collaging them on a support base, multiple layers of underpainting shine through, transforming the two-dimensional surface into a three-dimensional artwork.

In this exhibition, besides his representative portrait series, Sadam will also present large-scale abstract paintings spanning 150 cm, past works, and a series of meticulously detailed imitations. Overall, the exhibition contains retrospective elements, offering an excellent opportunity to understand who Sadam is as an artist.
