Satoru Aoyama
The phrase "Is there such a thing as eternity?" serves as a message from Satoru Aoyama regarding his recent theme, questioning various "disappearing entities" that are gradually disappearing from society over time.

Aoyama is a contemporary artist born in Meguro City. He creates his works using means that are far from the techniques typically used for creating artistic pieces, such as embroidery. The replacement of hand embroidery, a form of manual labor, by industrial machines like sewing machines suggests issues related to labor and capitalism in modern society. At the same time, his work raises questions about the differences between mass-produced products made by sewing machines and artistic pieces.

Furthermore, Aoyama's work also highlights issues related to traditional gender roles, as embroidery has traditionally been associated with women. "Boy," in the title at the age of fifty, also hints at issues of gender and ageism.

Aoyama sensitively responds to the various issues facing our rapidly changing society and uses the needle of a sewing machine to satirize them. This exhibition will showcase Aoyama's early work depicting his alma mater in Meguro City, as well as his new work.

どの作品も良かったです。実際にミシンで作業している映像を見ると、作品にかけられている労力が伝わってきました。 休日に行ったのですが、大人も子供も楽しそうに見ていたのが印象的でした。
