This summer, after a three-year hiatus, the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum will once again host the "Sazae-san Exhibition". The anime "Sazae-san" debuted on October 5, 1969, and celebrates its 55th anniversary this year. While Machiko Hasegawa's newspaper serialization ended in February 1974, the anime "Sazae-san" has continued to be beloved by people of all ages. This year, in commemoration of the 55th anniversary of its broadcast, the exhibition will explore the charm of Sazae-san from various angles.
The first-floor exhibition room features interactive corners such as "Sazae-san's Ring Toss Game", "Greengrocer's Picture Matching", and "Sazae-san's Rock-Paper-Scissors Photo Gallery", where visitors can participate and enjoy. The Sazae-san family, comprised of highly distinctive characters including Sazae-san herself, will be detailed in the second-floor exhibition room, explaining their personalities and traits through panels. The anime "Sazae-san" often weaves at least one of Machiko Hasegawa's original 4-panel manga stories into its episodes. This exhibition will also introduce sub-characters that have been inspired by elements from the original manga but have only appeared in the anime.
As a tradition of the Sazae-san Exhibition, visitors can also participate in "Hanazawa Real Estate Asahigaoka Subdivision", where they can build their own houses in the town of Asahigaoka where Sazae-san lives. Visitors can paint their small house in their favorite colors and have the opportunity to build it on the designated lot number allocated by lottery.
