Machiko Hasegawa enjoys traveling and has visited many places in between writing her manga. From then until her later years, Hasegawa visited all kinds of places, both in Japan and abroad. She traveled abroad as many as 20 times. For Hasegawa, who was always curious, the sights she saw in each country must have been exciting and inspiring. And these experiences were not just a hobby but were also utilized in her own works.
"Sazae-san Tabi-aruki" is a manga that depicts the events of Hasegawa's travels. This work was serialized in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper 24 times from March to August 1987. "Sazae-san Tabi-aruki" was the first work to be published in about nine years since the previous serialization, "Sazae-san Uchiakegatari," and many readers had high expectations for this work even before it was serialized. This was the last serialized manga for Hasegawa.
After the serialization ended, a book, "Sazae-san Tabi-aruki," was published by a sister company, containing 25 stories in total, including 24 stories that appeared in newspapers and one additional story. It was also made into a TV drama, starring actress Keiko Takeshita, and once again the series became a hot topic of conversation. Since its serialization in newspapers, "Sazaesan Tabi-aruki" has become a long-loved work.
