Saburosuke Okada
Since its opening, the Saga Prefectural Art Museum has been honoring the work and personality of Saburosuke Okada (1869-1939), a master of modern Japanese Western-style painting from Saga Prefecture who was active from the Meiji period to the early Showa period.

This year's Okada Room Vol. 27, titled "Selected Masterpieces of Saburosuke Okada - The History of His Beauty," will exhibit masterpieces selected from the museum's collection, focusing on Okada's works with production dates clearly indicated.

The exhibited works include "Arrow Study" (1893), which uses dark colors and depicts people with excellent realism, and "Mount Fuji (at Miho)" (1920), in which delicate color changes can be seen in the depiction of a magnificent mountain, and "Nude" (1935), in which the texture of the human body and the vivid colors of the background are harmoniously blended. Through these 17 works from his early period to his mature period, we can see the transition of expression that Okada pursued as a painter.
