Shi Un
Shi Un graduated from Tama Art University in March 2025. In August of the same year, she presented a ZINE work at “ORIZINE” held at DEN GALLERY in Nakano. Her practice revolves around inscribing the fleeting memories and emotions that tend to sink into everyday life onto the very surfaces of her materials.

In this exhibition, the artist explores the “discrepancy between awareness and action,”and the pain and friction that arise in that gap.

Those who should be precious are often pushed into the background amid the busyness of daily life and the prioritization of personal convenience.Even without intending to neglect them, we let go without noticing, leaving them covered in dust.

What we assume will always be beside us eventually reaches its end and is inevitably lost.Even while knowing this, we become absorbed in what is right before us,turning irreversible time into something we can no longer reclaim. The slowness of that realization, and the impossibility of making amends, give rise to a mix of frustration and restlessness.

Through acts of carving, she seeks to give form to these muddled and distorted emotions, leaving them as “traces.”The scraped surfaces embody fragments of wavering feelings and the very erosion of time itself. What emerges is a fundamental aspect of being human—something that can never be fully recorded, nor ever completely forgotten.
