Artists

Susumu Shingu, Renzo Piano
This is an unprecedented exhibition showcasing the collaborative works of two leading Japanese and Italian artists, Susumu Shingu and Renzo Piano.

Born in the same year, Shingu and Renzo Piano met through an international architectural competition for the Kansai International Airport Terminal Building. Renzo Piano, who was selected as the architect for the Kansai International Airport Passenger Terminal Building (opened in 1994), asked Susumu Shingu, who was attracting attention as a "wind artist," in 1989 to "make the invisible flow of air visible. The result was "Boundless Sky" on the international flight departure floor. Starting with this project, the two artists have worked together on numerous projects around the world.

The title "Parallel Lives" is derived from the title of a biography by Plutarchus, a Greek philosopher of the 1st and 2nd centuries, who compared two great men who shared many common characteristics and lives. This exhibition will focus on the collaborative works of the two artists, as well as their individual activities and works.

The common theme shared by the two artists is “wind." Studio Azzurro, a group of filmmakers pioneering in the field of video, will join them with a video based on their work to express the world of their collaboration. This exhibition will trace the dynamic steps of the two artists on a global scale, presenting the trajectory of their brilliant intersections on a grand scale.
