This exhibition is a retrospective of Shinro Ohtake's work based on seven themes: "self/other," "memory," "time," "transition," "dream/retina," "layer," and “sound." Ohtake (1955- ) has been active in a wide variety of fields and has participated in two major international exhibitions, Documenta (2012) and the Venice Biennale (2013), and is highly regarded overseas as one of the leading contemporary Japanese artists. Focusing on all kinds of "things" that are consumed and forgotten, Ohtake has been creating works full of originality for nearly half a century. Among his vast number of works, many are associated with Uwajima, including "New Chanel" and "Uwajima Station.
This exhibition presents approximately 500 selected works, including more than 70 "scrapbooks," his life's work, and monumental three-dimensional large-scale works, which are intentionally separated from their chronological order and reconstructed to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of his works. The Museum of Art, Ehime which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will be the first local venue for this exhibition, which will also feature special exhibits in collaboration with Uwajima City and the Dogo Onsen Honkan (Matsuyama City).
