Shozaburo Ishida, who presented his video works in the previous "Video Exhibition," will be exhibiting "photographs" taken from video for the first time.
“An Ironical Moment" can be seen as a work related to his debut work "Radiation Buscape," a snapshot-like work in which he photographed the hard-to-return zone in Fukushima Prefecture from inside a bus, but the moving bus limited the photographer's control, making it what might be called an inconvenient snapshot. On the other hand, “An Ironical Moment" is reminiscent of the title of Henri Cartier-Bresson's book "The Decisive Moment," and while referencing the aesthetics of snapshot photography, it reflects a new approach to the aesthetics of snapshot photography in the current age of technological advancement.
Also, just as "Radiation Buscape" was shot from inside a bus, a non-privileged, everyday mode of transportation, the subjects were socially aware, and "an ironical moment" can also be read as the artist's perspective on contemporary Japanese society.
