This exhibition project traces the history of Shun Okada from his past to his current new work. While a student, Okada realized that he unconsciously imitated known artists no matter what kind of picture he painted. He felt that the act of picking up a brush and painting as he pleased was dominated by the style, touch, and concept of artists he had seen and heard about in the past and that there was no independent choice in the process. At this time, he purchased a cheap Nintendo game console, which he had loved since childhood, and played it as an escape from his work. The Famicom was a dusty old video game console, and the screen would often malfunction with the slightest impact, causing the images to appear as if they had been corrupted. This was the inspiration for Okada to paint computer bugs as a motif. Okada depicted on canvas the color arrangement and forms characteristic of buggy images, as well as the texture of randomly displayed images and cathode ray tubes.
