Shuntaro Tanikawa
From the 1960s to the present, the poet Shuntaro Tanikawa has created a wide variety of picture books with various artists and photographers. He continues to challenge himself to express himself through pictures and words in his books, which are full of word play, clues to recognize the world as it is, the joy of nonsense, and the fun, difficulty, and preciousness of life, as well as death and war. The common thread that runs through all the picture books is Shuntaro Tanikawa's hopeful gaze toward the reader.

The exhibition will feature approximately 20 picture books, including illustrations, videos of pictures and words in motion, readings and sounds, a giant picture scroll, and newly written installation work. This is an exhibition where children and adults alike can fully enjoy the spread of pictures and words filled with hope and fun that emerge from the world of picture books.
