Since its opening in 1998, the Kanaz Forest of Creation has introduced various fields of art under the name Art Document, based on the basic philosophy that "the forest is the source of all art." The 25th edition of the exhibition will feature Sohei Nishino, a photographer who has walked around the world's cities creating works based on his personal experiences gained through his travels. His works, created with his outstanding compositional skills, are like a single organism, organically linking fragments of memory. Nishino began work on the "Diorama Map" series of map-like photographic works, in which he reconstructed fragments of cities he had photographed on foot while a university student, connecting them together based on his memories.
This exhibition presents works from six projects, including "Tokaido" (2017), a 34-meter scroll resulting from a three-year production period walking along the present-day Tokaido Highway, and "Mountain Line Mt. Fuji" (2021), a new work created during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, in anticipation of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line in Fukui in March 2024, the artist will present a new work that captures the present state of the Hokuriku Highway from Awara City to Kyoto.
