The theme of this exhibition, “Lotus Flower,” originated from a profound impression I experienced when I encountered the beauty of lotus flowers at the Taipei Botanical Garden during my stay in Taiwan.
Emerging from unfathomable depths of mud, the lotus possesses a sacred quality, yet at the same time evokes a sense of familiarity, like that of a childhood friend. It is this contrast that strongly stirred my desire to create.
From there, I began to perceive a quiet, distilled beauty within the real world—one that persists through a landscape filled with doubt toward the ever-changing texts, images, and videos of our digital age. In a time when highly refined, reproducible, and technologically mediated versions of everyday life are so easily accessible, I find myself drawn instead to the imperfect yet attentive beauty found in real-world scenery and daily living.
In casual words, in the condition of the moon glimpsed beyond a streetlight, and in the subtle kindnesses so small they are often overlooked, I sense something akin to the presence of the lotus flower.
This exhibition brings together works created from these reflections.
