Koichi Nakano
Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, Koichi Nakano studied under Matsuo Oba and mastered a wide range of traditional lacquer techniques, especially maki-e. Nakano has been working on a wide variety of lacquer works for many years, using a variety of techniques such as taka-maki-e, ken-de-maki-e, raden, hira-bun, and eggshell. He has been highly acclaimed for his dynamic expressions and witty, unconstrained style, and in 2010 he was certified as the holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property "maki-e". This exhibition will present a selection of Nakano's works from his many years of production and explore his appeal.
