Collage, derived from the French word "coller," meaning "to paste," is a technique of cutting and combining various materials found in daily life. This technique's recognition as a new artistic expression can be traced back to 1912 in France when artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque created works where pieces of fabric and paper were pasted onto oil paintings. In Japan, collage developed actively after the Taisho era when avant-garde expressions of Western art were embraced, creating diverse artworks.

The act of collage, existing long before the 20th century, gained renewed attention within the context of questioning conventional artistic expressions. Gradually transcending the term's boundaries as a technical description, collage has been employed in diverse ways in artistic creation. Today, numerous works showcase the expansive possibilities of collage. This exhibition introduces work from the collection created through collage techniques, along with pieces that utilize various images and textures inspired by the collage concept, delving deeper into the methodology and expressions associated with collage.
