Super Express that Crossed the Showa Era: From Tsubame to Shinkansen

National Showa Memorial Museum
Finished
Before the Shinkansen appeared as the "dream super express" in 1964, there was a limited express train called the "Super Express" that people admired. This limited express train, named "Tsubame," connected Tokyo to Kobe in about 9 hours starting in October of 1930, shortening the travel time between the two cities by more than 2 hours compared to the conventional schedule at that time. It served as a groundbreaking limited express train at the time. Due to the Pacific War, limited express trains temporarily disappeared from the scene, but after the war, they resumed operation under the name "Tsubame." This exhibition traces the history from the early Showa era when the "Tsubame" super express was born to the advent of the Shinkansen.
