Taisho Art Democracy

Fukuyama Museum of Art
Finished
As symbolized by the term "Taisho democracy," the Taisho era was when the taste, will, and rights of the "individual" were asserted politically and culturally. In art as well, works that brought the "individuality" of the artist to the forefront and glamorous works that enriched individual lives were produced. This exhibition explores "Taisho Art Democracy," the democracy of art, through a variety of works, including those by Yumeji Takehisa, a representative of Taisho Romanticism, various works by Ryusei Kishida, an artist representing the age of individuality, and Western-style paintings of Fukuyama, which flourished during this period.
