WISH LESS gallery is thrilled to announce the second duo exhibition by Takashi Nemoto and Ken Hamaguchi: ‘KARATORIO 2 ~HAPPY FAMILY~’.
Takashi Nemoto has been a leading figure in Japanese subculture as an avant-garde manga artist since the 1980s, he focuses on the darkness and resentment of society and depicts human life through his bizarre characters and creatures. He is now known as a pop culture icon, indispensable in the fields of music and art beyond the world of manga. Ken Hamaguchi is known for his unorthodox style of painting, which combines the outstanding drawing skills he developed as a realistic painter with the erudition and humour he acquired from music and other alternative cultures.
Following their inaugural joint exhibition in 2024, which deepened their artistic resonance, Nemoto and Hamaguchi now present the theme ‘HAPPY FAMILY’. A diverse gathering of “families” in every sense – young and old, men and women, great figures and ordinary folk, musicians, actors, animals, toys, and everything else imaginable. Through laughter and irony, they depict disparate entities connecting, influencing each other and surviving harsh environments, prompting us to consider diverse definitions of happiness.
This exhibition centres on record sleeve artworks – a natural focus for these two artists with deep musical knowledge – alongside numerous newly created collaborative pieces.
