This exhibition introduces its collection of work by Kagoshima-born painter Takeji Fujishima and his fellow Kagoshima artist Goyo Hashiguchi, who studied Japanese painting and was influenced by Art Nouveau, among other things.

Takeji Fujishima, who died 80 years ago in 2023, studied Japanese-style painting from the time he was in junior high school, and later studied under Yukihiko Soyama for Western-style painting. Later, under the influence of Art Nouveau, he developed his own decorative painting style.

Goyo Hashiguchi decorated books in the Art Nouveau style and created bindings for great writers such as Soseki Natsume, and later devoted himself to woodblock prints, earning him the nickname "Taisho no Utamaro (Utamaro of the Taisho Period).
