Since early February 2024, Taro Izumi has been staying in a room at the Nara History, Arts and Culture Village, which he has named "Large Window Studio Warehouse." During his daily movements, stays, and reflections, he conceived the installation and operation named "Dreamland." From the solar myths of various countries, the mobility and travel associated with mausoleums and ancient warehouses, to contemporary societal concerns such as power generation systems and commuter towns, Izumi's exploration ranges from Orphism to Orpheus, terracotta warriors, GPS, and beyond, endlessly repeating reflections, associations, and exchanges, aiming to conceive a mechanism for a new operation that traverses between organic (dynamic) and inorganic (static) realms. The keywords derived from various interests naturally intertwine intricately like a jungle, pulsating and circulating while closely interconnected.
This project marks Izumi's first venture in his hometown of Nara Prefecture, within the village established in 2022. "Dreamland" will open on the day of the spring equinox, March 20th, and will run until March 28th, when the day and night are of equal length, and the sun rises over the eastern mountains, passes through the south, and slightly leans towards the west. This limited 8-day opportunity promises to be a special occasion.
Venue: Studio 301, Exchange Lounge, Seminar Rooms AB, 3rd floor of the Art and Cultural Experience Building.
