Taro Kitagawa + Le Corbusier Exhibition

Toki-no-Wasuremono

Artists

Taro Kitagawa, Le Corbusier
Taro Kitagawa has his studio in Okayama, where he meticulously carves stone sculptures from solid blocks of materials such as granite and marble, shaping them with chisels while exploring their forms. He also has a series where he stacks small slices of stone, about 3-5mm thick, to create sculptures. In both cases, he engages with the material, bringing out bold yet delicate carvings that highlight the texture.

Le Corbusier, known for advocating the "Five Points of Modern Architecture" and considered one of the masters of 20th-century architecture alongside Wright and Mies, left behind numerous iconic buildings. However, he also had a passion for painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Throughout his life, he never gave up his paintbrush, leaving behind many prints, including the lithograph poetry collection "Poem of the Right Angle."
