The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities Shibuya opened in 2009 in Shibuya, Tokyo, as Japan's first museum specializing in ancient Egypt. The museum has more than 1,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts collected by private collectors. The collection, which covers the period from the Pre-Roman to Roman rule, is one of the best in Japan in terms of both quantity and quality and provides a complete picture of ancient Egyptian culture.
This exhibition will display approximately 200 items including mummies, mummy masks, human-shaped wooden coffins, temple pillars, Tutankhamun's ring, and other world-class artifacts, as well as containers and ornaments used in daily life, such as cosmetics, that illustrate the lifestyle of the time.
The exhibition also introduces the latest survey (2022) of the Maidum Pyramid, which has been largely unexplored for the past 100 years. The exhibition will also provide visitors with a glimpse into the history of the ancient Egyptians' belief in their gods, their state, their way of life, and their view of life and death, which spans over 3,000 years of the great civilization.
