The Dynamism of Lacquerware for Export in Modern Japan: The World of the Kaneko Teruhiko Collection

Kanagawa Prefectural Museum Of Cultural History
Finished
This exhibition primarily showcases the collection of Teruhiko Kaneko, who has been collecting export crafts overseas for many years as a collector of export crafts. From his extensive collection, the exhibition focuses on export lacquerware produced in regions like Shibayama, Shizuoka, and Aizu, which passed through Yokohama to reach foreign shores. Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to view woodcrafts like marquetry and wood inlays, which were sometimes categorized as lacquerware during the same period. This exhibition invites viewers to explore the comprehensive view of unknown modern export lacquerware and experience its dynamic allure.
