Since ancient times, the Silk Road has flourished as an important route for exchange and trade, where various ethnic groups have risen and fallen. Crossing the Eurasian continent, this trade route saw the exchange of people and cultural artifacts, fostering a diverse blend of cultures between the East and West.
In this exhibition, approximately 200 treasures of the Silk Road, including 44 first-class artifacts (equivalent to Japan's national treasures) held by major museums and research institutions in China, will be displayed. Through these artifacts, including splendid Chinese treasures from the Tang Dynasty, Buddhist scriptures and statues transmitted from India, and relics depicting the lives of oasis inhabitants, visitors will witness the essence of the cultures born along the Silk Road.
Moreover, this exhibition is the first large-scale event held outside of China since the Silk Road: Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor trade route network was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. Artifacts from newly registered sites on the World Heritage List will also be exhibited.
