The Museum Collection: Color and Quality

National Museum of Japanese History
Finished
This special exhibition is planned as a thematic presentation of the museum's collection focusing on the theme of "color." Here, we interpret the word "color" broadly, considering not only the spectrum of colors such as red, yellow, blue, etc. but also the "gloss" conveyed by the texture of materials and the fine structure, as well as the "form" created by their combinations.

This exhibition highlights museum collection items that possess distinctive "color, gloss, and form," providing exhibition and explanations from the perspectives of history, archaeology, folklore, and natural science. The goal is to explore the connection between color and humanity in Japan. Whether as a symbol of authority or awe or as a craft created by artisans, the exhibition aims to draw out various interpretations of museum collections using the keyword "color."
