The Nordic Landscapes that Kaii Traveled and the Design around Life

Kagawa Prefectural Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Kaii Higashiyama
In 1962, Kaii Higashiyama took a three-month journey through Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, where Higashiyama absorbed the natural beauty and cityscapes. Upon returning to Japan, Higashiyama expressed those impressions through paintings and essays. Concurrently, in the 1960s, the Nordic countries produced exceptional daily-use items with outstanding designs that continue to impact people's lives.

This exhibition showcases over 80 pieces, including works by Higashiyama and Nordic design materials. The aim is to explore the Nordic landscapes and lifestyles Higashiyama observed and introduce Nordic designs rooted in the daily lives of that era.
