The Splendor of Edo Painting

Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji
Finished

Artists

Jakuchu Ito, Okyo Maruyama, Hoitsu Sakai et al.
The works collected by American collectors of Japanese art, Mrs. and Mr. Etsuko and Joe Price (Price Foundation) have been added to the Museum’s collection. This exhibition, held in two parts, features works by Itō Jakuchū (1716-1800) and Maruyama Ōkyo (1733-95) who vividly colored the Kyoto art world in the 18th century as well as paintings by Sakai Hōitsu (1761-1828) who led the Edo Rimpa school. The Edo period was a time of great prosperity in the history of Japanese painting with these prominent painters competing against each other. We hope you will enjoy the brilliant world of gorgeous paintings by the master artists of the time.
