The Vision of Seiichiro Kuboshima: Founder of Two Museums to Artists that Died Young

Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
This exhibition is the first to shed light on the connection between the Shinano Drawing Museum (opened in 1979 and closed in 2019) and the Mugonkan (opened in 1997), both brought to life by the rare connoisseur Seiichiro Kuboshima.

The exhibition showcases paintings and sculptures by art students who died in the war, collected by the Mugonkan, alongside works from the former collection of the Shinano Drawing Museum by Western-style painters such as Kaita Murayama, Shoji Sekine, and Aimitsu, who all passed away young. Despite the different circumstances of their deaths—whether by war or illness—these artists shared a passion for painting, never putting down their brushes until the end. This exhibition offers a chance to experience their passion and the origins of their creativity.
