Shigemasa Kaneko (1912-1982), born in Ichinohe-cho, Ninohe-gun, Iwate Prefecture, was recognized for his talent while attending an art school in Tokyo and entered the creative world as a children's picture artist. In 1945, he was evacuated to Fukuoka-cho, Ninohe-gun (now Ninohe City) due to the severe air raids on Tokyo. After the war, he published many works in the field of rental manga and magazines for boys and girls.
