Anjo Civic Art Gallery
Finished
In celebration of its 20th anniversary in 2023, the Citizens' Gallery, has been promoting artwork collection and educational outreach activities with a focus on "printmaking" since its opening. The gallery has equipped facilities necessary for printmaking, and through its courses, many students have become acquainted with printmaking.

"The World of Taisho Imagery" primarily showcases designs from the Taisho era, including illustrations in various printed materials and book covers. The term "Imagerie" in French refers to the representation of image or imagery, encompassing popular replicated images such as book covers, illustrations, posters, picture postcards, advertisements, and photographs. From the Edo period, where ukiyo-e and kawaraban (woodblock prints) were produced, to the Meiji period, where lithography was used to create posters, the development of printing technology led to the creation of numerous Imagery. The artists responsible for these cover illustrations and illustrations were exploring various expression methods, influenced by new techniques and decorative styles introduced from Europe. The exhibition features enchanting and newly expressive designs by artists like Yumeji Takehisa, Ryusei Kishida, Hisui Sugiura, and Kaichi Kobayashi.

Additionally, the exhibition introduces works from contemporary artists associated with Anjo, which was dubbed "Japan's Denmark" and flourished as an agricultural advanced region during the Taisho period, showcasing the rural culture of Anjo.
