The World of Vintage Liters

Tobacco & Salt Museum
Finished
The lighter is a smoking igniter invented in modern Europe. From the 1920s to the 1950s in Europe and the U.S., many famous products were created with Art Deco style designs and beautiful finishes such as plating and enamel. After World War II, Japan became one of the world's leading lighter manufacturing countries. This exhibition will feature various igniters, the predecessors of lighters, as well as famous products from Dunhill, Ronson, Evans, Zippo, and others. Also on display will be postwar domestic oil lighters and the history of lighter manufacturing as a local industry in the Sumida River area.
