Seishodo Yamashita The Room is pleased to invite American artist Theaster Gates for an exceptional project “Listening Room” for one month. The artist proposes this place to be “A temporary conversation space for reflection on the topics of craft, culture and contemporary art practices.”
Theaster Gates is internationally acclaimed for his sculpture and ceramic works, as well as architecture, music, performance, fashion, and design, and has also studied Japanese ceramics and been influenced by Japanese culture. How will the culture of Kyoto and the history of the tea ceremony respond to his unique aesthetic philosophy of “Afro-mingei”? We will be delighted to welcome you to experience this ephemera room.
