Known as the artist of "Ikiro," Takahiro Suzuki has been creating works full of unrestrained images on canvas in the same format under the series name "Sunday Painting" since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Last spring, he held a solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Factory, featuring selected works from this series under the theme of "Journey to Painting.
On the other hand, Tomohki Hino is a new artist, just 19 years old, and this is his first exhibition. His miniature-like drawings, created with a ballpoint pen, depict slumbering infants and enigmatic creatures in a space rich in shadows reminiscent of a jungle, with a unique sense of floating.
In his "Sunday Painting" series, Suzuki, who has been drawing his own dreams and images that spring from his subconscious, found in Hino's drawings, a student of his drawing class, a similar process of creation to his own, and felt a strong sense of empathy, which led to the realization of this two-person exhibition.
This exhibition, titled "Memory of This Planet," will feature a different selection of works from Takahiro Suzuki's "Sunday Painting" series, as well as Tomohki Hino's drawings, all of which are his first published works, including newly drawn ones. A gallery talk by the two artists will also be held during the exhibition.
