Tomonori Taniguchi, an Osaka-based picture book artist, says, "After seeing an exhibition of picture book artists from overseas, I wanted to create picture books that could convey feelings and emotions to many people, from children to adults, around the world, even if they don't understand the language,” says Tomonori Taniguchi, an Osaka-based picture book artist. While majoring in Japanese painting at Kanazawa College of Art, Taniguchi pursued his dream of becoming a picture book artist and began to create picture books on his own.
In 2004, he made his debut as a picture book author with "Monkey-kun to Otsukisama" (Monkey and the Moon), in which he painted a unique world with six colors of acrylic paint on black paper. The story is about a monkey who returns a crying moon that fell into the forest to the sky by climbing a tree, his specialty, and makes it smile. The very popular "100 Ninin no Santa Clauses" is a picture book that expresses the wish that if there were as many Santas as there are children... a world where Santa Claus would come to every child in the world.
Currently, Taniguchi is not only working in the world of picture books, but also supporting picture books for Cambodia, creating wall paintings and monuments for nursery schools, kindergartens, and zoos, and contributing to local tourism and city tour projects with Santa Claus objects as a PR ambassador for Shijonawate City. He is also active in a wide range of activities, including live painting, holding workshops, and running a gallery and café.
This exhibition will feature approximately 250 works, including original paintings from about 20 titles of picture books, including new works, as well as three-dimensional Santa Claus objects. In addition, several events will be held, including the sale of original goods from the exhibition and autograph sessions.
