Yokohama prints, depicting the newly opened port of Yokohama and the foreign visitors who arrived there, and railway prints, celebrating Japan's first railway, which opened in 1872, capture the spirit of a nation undergoing rapid change from the closing years of the Edo period into the Meiji era.
Through these two genres of woodblock prints, the exhibition explores the public's fascination with the wider world and the excitement surrounding the arrival of a new era.
