The phrase "a gesture that is not smooth" appears in the poem “Kumu" by Noriko Ibaraki, a writer who spent her childhood in Nishio Town, Hazu County (now Nishio City).
The artists, each with his or her own sensibility, take a look at events that we tend to stop thinking about or pretend not to see because we are too busy with our daily lives, and create works of art. Their approach is not always smooth and unobtrusive. However, the beautiful ripples that are created in our hearts and minds by the un-smooth gestures of artists who do not pass over the various things around them in a mature manner can sometimes be the driving force for living tomorrow.
In this exhibition, artists active in Japan and abroad will present their works in cultural facilities around Nishio Station and other venues in the town, touching on various aspects of local culture and folklore.
Venues: Nishio City Iwase Bunko, Kozenji Temple, Former Ueda Furniture Store, Shokoso Fugonan, Nishio City Archives, Yuboji Temple (music program), Rinzai Core Factory (special exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of Nishio's municipal organization)
