Uzuki Okubo "Awaré-Ten"

Issa-Soju Memorial Hall
Finished

Artists

Uzuki Okubo
The Issa-Soju Memorial Hall, a historical building, will be the site of an exhibition of photographs by photographer Uzuki Okubo on the theme of “aware."

In the back room of the Issa-Souju Memorial Hall, there is a hanging scroll that reads “apparé," the origin of the word being “awaré." Aware originally referred to the sound emanating from emotion.

Photographer Ugetsu Okubo, with camera in hand, has been walking through the streets of Nagareyama, Okinawa, Tokyo, and other cities in Japan, taking pictures of the moments that moved him. For Okubo, the sound that naturally emanates from emotion is the sound of the shutter, and "Awaré-Ten" will be held as an exhibition in pursuit of that emotion.
