Virtuous and Wise Monks of Shomyoji Temple – Buddhas, Arhats, Bodhisattvas

Kanagawa Prefectural Kanazawa-Bunko Museum
Finished
When encountering the dignified figures of Buddhas, Arhats, and Bodhisattvas, whether they are crafted from materials like paper, silk, wood, clay, stone, or metal, one naturally feels a sense of awe, bowing their head and clasping their hands in reverence.

This exhibition explores the background of the Buddhist faith, as conveyed by the sculptures, paintings, and ritual implements related to the virtuous and wise monks held at Shomyoji Temple in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama. The journey involves examining the National Treasure "Shomyoji Shokyo" and the Important Cultural Property "Complete Sutras of the Song Dynasty" as key elements.
