Yasuo Kazuki: Hometown and Home / Happy New Year Animals!?

Shimonoseki City Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Yasuo Kazuki
Kazuki Yasuo (1911-1974) is one of the leading painters of Japanese Western painting in the Showa period. Born in Misumi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, he lived in Shimonoseki for about 10 years between his conscription as a soldier during World War II and his detention in Siberia after the war, and continued to create in his "hometown" Misumi studio for the latter half of his life. To mark the 50th anniversary of his death, we will introduce works from our museum collection that were inspired by Kazuki's surroundings, such as landscapes, still lifes, and family scenes.

Auspicious animals for the New Year!?
In celebration of the New Year, we will be showcasing Japanese paintings from our collection that depict auspicious animals such as the Chinese zodiac animals and divine beasts.
