This exhibition, which marks the first time in three years for the gallery, introduces 48 paintings and 2 drawings from the series of the same name that Yayoi Kusama has been working on since 2021. This exhibition will also be held at Ota Fine Arts Shanghai (May~) and Ota Fine Arts Singapore (September~).
The latest series featured in this exhibition, "Every Day I Pray for Love" (2021-present), introduces the characteristic of "text," which is a feature of updating her expressive language, amidst the repetition of typical motifs such as nets, dots, and profiles. Kusama often draws one or multiple circles on the canvas, interweaving markers and acrylic, and spells out her poems or messages in Japanese or English within them. The subtle variations in brushwork weight and tempo vividly convey Kusama's breath.
Since the pandemic in 2020, Kusama has established a routine of creating in her room, and the works in the current series, born within the context of adapting to life spaces, continue to emerge from her desire to create art that transcends her boundaries.
