Yoko Emi
Yoko Emi has been practicing calligraphy since the age of three, creating contemporary, abstract calligraphy works alongside highly realistic ink paintings of animals and other living creatures.
She currently lives with her beloved dog, and her love for living creatures is infused into each and every stroke of ink with her exceptional skill. This exhibition, titled “Sumi utsushi,” features creatures that emerge with a realism that belies the mere ink of a single work. Her astonishingly detailed brushstrokes and surreal worlds rendered entirely in black and white speak to the viewer’s memories and emotions, complemented by recollections and imagination to complete the works. The absence of color breathes life into each viewer’s own experiences and memories.
The direct and vivid presence of life is conveyed only through the realism of ink. Experience the moment your heart encounters Yoko Emi’s ink-painted creatures.
