Yoko Ishii "Yokai Inujima: Twelve Divine Generals"

Gallery Uesuto
Starts in 3 days

Artists

Yoko Ishii
On Inujima Island in the Seto Inland Sea, the remains of a copper refinery from about a century ago still remain today. The yokai of Yokai Inujima have eyes made with black, shimmering copper slag created during the refining process. Each figure has its own distinct expression, making every yokai completely unique.

Bringing together 100 yokai in an installation inspired by the Twelve Divine Generals, the exhibition creates a world unlike any other. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Yokai Inujima, this special exhibition invites visitors to experience the mysterious and playful world of these creatures in the cool underground space of Ginza.
